Denise was born in Oakville Ontario and moved to Vancouver Island in 1991.

“I’ve been an artist all my life and have been given a great “gift” to be able to paint the world around me. Vancouver Island and especially Nanaimo  offers an endless source of inspiration for me.

I have been in partnership with two Art Galleries in Nanaimo, “The Public Hanging” and  “The Intersection Gallery” which I shared with my artist Father for five years. My work is displayed locally in private clinics, coffee shops and Art 10 Gallery at North Town Centre.

I paint in Acrylics and oils, am a self-taught painter with a background in Fine Arts, Commercial Art, Weaving, and Crafts. I have many hobbies on the go, including Tai Chi, jewelry making, tile mosaic work,  card making, weaving spinning and music making.

I have a Commercial art background which helps me develop and utilize my own design work in advertising.

My studies and part time work as a Community Support Worker,  and Mental Health Worker have broadened my skills & experiences as an artist.  For over 23 years I have worked with developmentally challenged adults finding creative outlets for their artistic endeavours. I facilitate art classes and  help showcase their work, raising public awareness of their unique and varied  talents.  Art is for everyone and has an empowering effect on building any individuals dignity and confidence.”

Denise has won numerous awards for her work  which are  included in many private and   corporate collections.

Known for her portraits of arbutus trees and local scenery, she is influenced by her favourite Nanaimo Parks, Westwood Lake and Buttertubs Marsh.
